Open Channel—the powerhouse quintet led by Kansas City trumpeter Nick Hmeljak—takes the patio at Vine Street Brewing for a single release show ahead of their debut album, Alive.
Hmeljak, a recent Charlotte Street Foundation resident, built Open Channel to explore the deep roots of Black American Music from the 1960s to today. Expect original compositions and select standards driven by collective improvisation—exhilarating, melancholic, and dynamic.

crashes straight into hip-hop swing.

What started at Boulevard Brewing, moved through Crane Brewing, and planted roots at Vine Street in 2023 is back for another run, this time on the patio, under costumes, with the horns up and the low end live.

Expect a real collision course: big arrangements, hip-hop backbone, and a room that feels halfway between a concert and a block-party fever dream.
