The Rhythm of 18th & Vine
Swipe or drag to explore our complete journey—from historic 1850s stone roots to national championship brewing.
Street Department Hub
Hand-built out of rugged native limestone in the 1850s, the historic structures at 2000 Vine are erected to serve as the city's Street Department maintenance core. They stand as a silent anchor through nearly two centuries of changing city landscapes.
The Cradle of Jazz
The historic 18th & Vine district emerges as a global epicenter for Black culture, commerce, and music. Over 100 businesses flourish, while legendary figures like Charlie "Bird" Parker and Count Basie craft the iconic, riff-heavy 'Kansas City style' jazz sound in packed neighborhood clubs.
Beats, Rhymes & Dance
Co-founder Kemet Coleman builds his legacy as a prominent Kansas City musician. Layering the city's rich jazz heritage with raw hip-hop storytelling and a profound love for electronic and dance music rhythms, Kemet sets the high-energy sonic identity for the future brewery.
The Rogue Music Video
While working at Boulevard Brewing Co., Kemet's creative drive boils over. He sneaks a camera crew into the brewhouse to film a rogue music video. Corporate brass is not amused, and he is fired—igniting a fierce determination to one day build his own brewhouse where art rules.
First Sparks at 2000 Vine
Kemet first tours the long-abandoned buildings at 2000 Vine. He envisions a brewery in the North building, sparking a grueling chapter of three failed attempts to secure the space as pre-COVID economic hurdles stall the dream.
The Trio Assembles
The vision locks into a powerhouse partnership. Woodie Bond, Elliott Ivory, and Kemet Coleman tour the raw, limestone walls of 2000 Vine together. Standing in the historic space, they decide shattered or not: this is the home.
Lease Signed & Annie Joins
After years of pushing, the lease is officially signed. Kemet recruits his former restaurant boss, Annie McGinnis, as Co-Owner and Director of Operations. Her high-level hospitality finesse gives the team the execution engine needed to build the dream.
Restoring the Stone
A massive, intentional historic adaptive reuse project begins at 2000 Vine. The team converts the industrial, long-abandoned 1850s Street Department castle into a state-of-the-art multi-level brewhouse, community taproom, and performance sanctuary.
History is Poured
History is made. Vine Street Brewing Co. officially opens, solidifying its place as Missouri's first Black-owned brewery. Lines wrap around the historic block as beer, electronic beats, and community celebrate a monumental cultural milestone.
National Trophies & Lead
Master brewer Dez Jones leads an award-winning lineup, securing USA Today 10Best accolades and NB2A Brewery of the Year. Meanwhile, Annie McGinnis steps up as President of the National Black Brewers Association, driving industry equity nationwide.
