Kemet Coleman Returns With “King Kemet,” His First Full-Length Album Since 2017

Kansas City-based artist, entrepreneur, and cultural curator Kemet Coleman is set to release his highly anticipated new album, King Kemet, this Friday, April 25. This is Coleman’s first full-length project since 2017’s Invisible Man and marks a powerful return to his roots as a storyteller, producer, and community leader.

Kemet is best known as the founder and frontman of the genre-blending live band The Phantastics, and as co-founder of Vine Street Brewing Company, Missouri’s first Black-owned brewery. With King Kemet, he brings together his artistic, cultural, and entrepreneurial identities into one dynamic body of work.

The 12-track album explores themes of legacy, pressure, identity, and elevation — blending boom bap, bounce, Afrofuturism, and personal mythology. Kemet produced the majority of the project himself, while also collaborating with a stellar lineup of producers including:

  • Dominique Sanders (Grammy-nominated; “Born in the Middle”)

  • S. Fire (Grammy-nominated; “Batmobile”)

  • DDot Professor (jazz pianist/producer; “Pissed Off”)

  • Leonard Dstroy (Kansas City legend; “Trick Please”)

The album will be released exclusively on Bandcamp and SoundCloud on April 25 — a deliberate move to cater to fans who value direct artist support and DJs looking for early access. The album will hit all major streaming platforms on May 2.

To celebrate, Coleman will host “The King KMT Experience” — a release party and immersive performance at The Ship (1221 Union Ave) on the night of the album drop, April 25. The event will feature:

  • A live set from Kemet performing songs from the album

  • An opening DJ set by Heaven’s Gate

  • A special performance by West African drummers

  • A full dance party curated by Maxx Gruv and DJ Skeme

Doors open at 8:30PM. Music starts at 9:00PM.
