Behind the Tap with Juan Tovar

Welcome to "Behind the Tap," our new blog series highlighting the amazing team members who make Vine Street Brewing Co. a hub of craft beer innovation and community. These are the passionate individuals pouring your favorite brews, sharing their stories, and crafting the unforgettable experiences you have come to love at VSB.

In this edition, we're chatting with Juan Tovar, a true maestro of the taproom with a love for energetic beats and bold flavors. Juan pairs the mosh pit energy of Paris Texas’s album "mid air" with our 'Life of the Party' beer, capturing the essence of excitement and movement that defines both the music and the brew.

Q&A with Juan Tovar

Q: Music and brewing both can evoke emotions and bring people together. What song or album is the perfect pairing for your favorite Vine Street brew, and why does it complement each other so well?

Vine Street Life of the Party

A: Rap duo Paris Texas' album "mid air" would go so good with 'Life of the Party' just because it's a mosh pit album. They both have this high-energy vibe that makes you want to jump around and just let loose.

Q: If you could serve any historical figure a beer at Vine Street, who would it be, and what beer would you choose for them? Why?

A: Bill Russell. I'd serve him 'Paper Bag Thin' so we've got a nice light beer to drink while we talk about his incredible legacy.

Q: When you're not sharing your passion for beer with the world, what's your favorite hobby or activity that people might be surprised to learn about?

A: I love anime!! Especially 'Bleach'. I grew up watching 'Naruto' and 'One Piece' but have never stopped watching since I was a kid.

Q: What's your favorite thing about Vine Street?

A: My coworkers. They're the heart and soul of VSB and make every day here a blast.

Q: Kansas City is full of wonders. Can you share your favorite local spot that feels like a hidden gem to you?

A: The Parlor is a really fun spot to me, especially when they host a vintage pop-up shop.

Q: Everyone remembers their first craft beer experience. What was yours, and how did it set you on the path to becoming a beer star at Vine Street?

A: I worked at a brewery in Emporia, Kansas called Radius. That's where I really started my palate for beer.
